Reaching New Heights
Since it was first introduced in 1996, the Integrated Safety Management system is the tool the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration uses to build a safe, secure and environmentally sound workplace.
Theme: Reaching New Heights
The building blocks of Integrated Safety Management — Define the Scope of Work, Analyze the Hazards, Develop and Implement Hazard Controls, Perform Work within Controls, and Provide Feedback for Continuous Improvement — were used to establish a solid foundation.
Upon this foundation, we have built a strong program across the complex that incorporates the elements of quality assurance, environmental management, conduct of operations and security as well as safety.
Our challenge now is to take Integrated Safety Management to the next level, where the safe performance of work is a core value across the U.S. Department of Energy community.
Reaching New Heights appropriately entitles our efforts to take the ISM system to the next level — strengthening our safety culture through leadership, worker engagement, and organizational learning.
